Into the crypt

Ahead of us the tunnel opens out into a lit area. Lots of the little lizard folk are scuttling through. One turns to us and says aha, quick come this way.

We continue down through the tunnels and can see the purplish light in mist coming up through the holes. We head down the corridors and come to a room lit up by a rainbow of light, which is a strange conglomeration of crystals around an Obsidion statues. The lizard recognises a tie in of arcane and necrotic energy. There is something inherently wrong about this.

The priest asks what they have and the lizard priest inspects what they have. The priest is getting agitated about what has been brought and that it is the wrong place. The priest clicks his fingers and disintegrates the two lizards.

Pol ties to bluff the priest, but he isn’t taken in and prepares to unleash his light, which is deflected by the shield of the dwarf, the lizard Memnnon calls down the power of Ixion, scorching the creature with radiant light.

The halfling stabs the priest and then says lets scarper this way. The elf moves into the attack and stabs the priest with his short sword, killing him. The light is pushed into the corner as the dead priest falls. The dwarf quickly searches the body of the priest. Pol looks at the trinkets and sees that they are some sort of construct, which means he might be able to control them.

The lights start firing at the party, so the party retreats and turns left. We read part of the tablet, which talks about focusing a lot of energy in Y’hog to create a great ritual. Lizard Memnnon marks the side of the stairs " danger radiant and necrotic that way"

The dwarf continues to carry the tablet as the party heads down the stairs to a very large door, which is wider and shorter than would be expected for a human. The door is very secure and is locked. The halfling can’t hear anything beyond, he can’t find any traps and easily opens the door, which turns and goes around a corner before opening into a dark room, full of books and scrolls and inscribed metal plates. The wizard pushes past the group in excitement to see the library, he looks around to see what is here. Most of his searches reveal that it is the history of the Carnifex nation and also about bringing forth the beings from the beyond.

Pol suggests, reluctantly that the scrolls could be set alight to create a diversion. After a bit more reading the spcific target to hit the city of Lomar. Lomar is the city of 8 gates, which are the portals to other places. Of the portals could be overloaded this might break a rift.

We can hear voices. " Clearly we have some form of interloper in the building, find and punish them"

The heroes head on turn left and find a grated complex. With a desk and we take another corridor.. The left hand one goes down and so the party follows it on down into a large domed chamber with a number of guard creatures and a crystal light thing, a priestly lizard type. The room is eerily lit and the ceiling looks like the night sky. The wizard and the elf feel that the stars aren’t quite right. The room positively throbs with energy and there is a bled of red coming out the room that the priest. The party agrees to carry through the bluff, only after the wizard pushes the elf and halfling into the room. They march through and into the red room. In the centre is. Large red ruby held with a metal holder. There is a purple swirl of energy and a large Carnifex, which looks up and sees us. There is another smaller one also chanting. The party keeps confidently walking , until the elf pulls his bow out and shoots the green priest. Before charging up to its side, behind the halfling, both are beaten by the wizard’s firebolt. The dwarf charges the priest diving over the halfling and into the priest pushing him into his following light..

Memnnon walks up to the large Carnifex and with a clap of thunder pushes it back away from the large crystal. He also damages the large creature.

The large Carnifex shakes itself and retaliates with 2 purple darts at the silver lizard. He then steps forward and shouts " you’ve damaged it!" The halfling hearing this steps forward and strikes the centre ruby. The other priest stops chanting, shouts ‘guards’ and runs up and rips the throat out of the wizard. As he falls to the floor he cries out break the ruby, break the ruby.

The priest calls down his sacred flame on the ruby. The radiant power of Ixion destroys the ruby….. In a brilliant

The lizard Memnnon calls down a sacred flame on the one of the lights.

The Rebellion

Pol looks up and sees his brother, and a dwarf jester and a guard. He recalls that he doesn’t like his brother, who is dressed very richly.

One of the captives and sees Pol’s brother and breaks free, charging at the richly dressed wizard. The captive is very upset at seeing Pol’s brother and trys to attack him. He is struck down by guards.

Pol feels that there was something shouted along the lines of traitor, but isn’t completely clear. Meanwhile the end of the procession is coming through. At the end borne aloft is a huge and very fierce Saurnian creature

The party sneaks off, away from the adoring crowd, despite the hin very carefully walking into a giant frog. The party slips into the drainage stream, which the elf says is not nice but harmless. The party moves towards the grill which the elf had noticed earlier wasn’t very secure.

The gate moves very easily, and the party starts to senak through. However a shadow uphead who croaks “not so fast.” They are froggy guards and look threatening until they see out silvery lizard friend. “Ahhh the silver one who is here to save us.”

“Yes indeed”says Memnnon. There is a brief hesitation as the silver Memnnon feels for his new role as saviour and trys to work out what his next line is. However he is saved by the frogs who usher the party away from the main drain.

The party heads deeper into the drains and once into a wider cavern where Silver Memnnon is greeted with reverence. The frog people say that the lizard people had made a great show of parading his capture. Now they know he is alive and well, they will spread the word and tell all the silver one is alive

The frog folk tell us we a in the city of Ishtur-koth, which is a Carnifax city, ruled by the Hog Carnifex , who are fighting the humans of Lohmar, where Pol is from.

The Carnifex may have made a number of races in the halls of shaping. They are clearly building some thing big and it will be bad for Lomar. The Carnifex are Sacrificing huge numbers of people. The prince of Lomar was betrayed by his brother and captured.

The sacrificial energy is being captured and sent to a central point in the city where it is powering up powerful ritual

Y’hog is the capital city of the Carnifex . The lizard people are trying to crush the world under their heal for their masters from the the Outer Planes.

The heroes discuss options and try to work out tactics to stop the execution of this ritual and the continuous slaughter of people.

There are 100s of frog folk, but not enough to force it. There is a substantial warren of underground tunnels throughout the city

The little lizard, is called Osgareth. says they are moving lots of of things in the towers of knowledge deeper underground.

Below the temple of the Outer Beings is a crypt which connects to the towers of knowledge. Where the Carnifex are moving their knowledge.

There are less than 100 Carnifex in the temple. There is a powerful one.

Pol discovers he is actually the prince of Lomar and his younger brother is the one in the robes he saw earlier, who is here to make deal with the Carnifex. Pol suspects it isn’t a good one for his people.

The next day we discover that the frequency of bursts from the central temple has stepped up. A week ago it was one or two pulses per day and now it is much more.

Discussion is made as to what to do.

Captives are held in low domed pits. Pol (prince of Lomar) recalls that his logo is that of an eagle. Pol asks the frogs to pass out the logo to all slaves and tell them to be ready.

The party head out to the towers of knowledge. There is a buzz on the streets and more patrols of guards, fewer slaves who are carrying stuff. There are also more sacrifices being herded to their death.

As the heroes head to the central plaza a group of guards wander up to the party and address Memnnon. Who admonishes him for being so rude, but praises him as well. the heroes move on without a fight

The central plaza towers over everything else, there are carvings all around. The Towers of knowledge are big but not nearly as big as the Temple to the Outer Beings. People are coming and going into the temple. Every 40 minutes there are arcs of power coming out of the temple. There is. A strong feel of soul energy.

The towers of knowledge are built of Obsidian, covered in carvings of mammalian creatures being sacrificed in hideous ways. We head to the front door and see an overseer creature who is overseer class rather than priest class. Silver Memnon discusses with the overseer where he should be going It appears to be going badly, so Pol tries to charm the overseer… things go from bad to worse when Pol’s charm person spell fails and he is smacked by the overseer. Eventually Silver Memnon’s silver tongue allows the heroes to pass on into the Tower.

In the tower there are row upon row of scrolls and documents, reaching up into the ceiling. Little lizardfolk and some humanoid slaves are carrying scrolls. Most of the scrolls are being taken to the left hand circular chamber, which is very dim.

The Carnifex use a rule breaking combination of arcane and divine magic, their leaders are known as sorcerer priests.

The runes written in the floor indicate where the invisible lifts are. The lizards are using these to access the upper areas of the Tower. Pol studies these closely trying to work out how they work. He is soon noticed by a lizard creature who challenges him. Pol charms him and gets the creature to give him the scrolls it is carrying.

Pol hands out the scrolls to the rest of the party and they head down a spiralling ramp a good 100 feet. At the bottom is a guard with an overseer. As the Party approach the bottom the overseer approaches to see where they should be going. Once again Memnon convinces him that they should go another way… And off they go… towards the Temple.

on the way a certain curious small person peers down into a grill and sees a smoky purply tentacle reach up and try to grab the him. the sprightly halfling slashes at it and flees. The rest of the party slash and flee, except for the elf and the lizardman.

Entrance to the Obsidion City

The heroes step into the area where the jungle will not grow. It feels like the jungle is being kept out.

After referring to the letter of Marcus, the party heads over to the large mound of earth. Spread around her and there are the odds and ends of human detritus.

The party starts digging, the day starts as a bright sky and it gets very hot, causing. To be hotter. Which Ozzie can tell it’s not natural. The second hour it gets so hot, that Ozzie and other start suffering from heat exhaustion.

Tol heads off to get materials to create shade, as he leaves the sky starts to darken and the winds pick up. Ozzie discerns no arcane activity, but Memnnon feels that the immortals have created some form of divine power to prevent entry.

After three hours, Memnnon stops working and he and Tol, prays to Halav for inspiration. During this time, Memnnon feels that Halav is pre-occupied.

The next bit of strange weather is that it starts to rain. Ozzie’s fire ball doesn’t really help. It then turns to hail, getting so hard that the party has to retreat for the hour. The next hour the hail turns to snow and the heroes return to digging.

Tol forms a sledge and Ozzie creates Tenser’s floating disc to help remove the dirt. Walls of fire melt the ground so that it is still dig gable.

the snow melts and the dirt becomes very sticky mud, making it harder to dig.

The party sets up camp for the night, with Ozzie and Memmnnon inside the clearing and Tol, Kathka, and Switch outside of it. Memnnon and Kathka take first watch. Kathka thinks Memnnon is asleep and Memnnon thinks Kathka. Everyone in the party has very strange dreams, rushing through tunnels, there is also a strong voice talking to us before putting back into the stream.

Tol hears the voice say the seven stars are lost, but somehow they remain yet how long they do

Great knowledge awaits of fouls deeds done long ago, learn that you may act.

Suddenly everyone feels an intense pain in our chests and everyone wakes up, without any equipment , surrounded by bodies. Mainly human bodies, some other races. 5 of the bodies have had their hearts ripped out and replaced with a gemstone in its place. Memnnon is now a scaled lizardmen type person, Tol is now an elf

The party can’t recall each other’s names

Above is a domed ceiling, with a walkway, with 8 halfling sized lizardmen and one scaly humanoid lizardmen. It suggests that the larger ones aren’t necessarily the more intelligent.

The lizardmen start painting excitededly at the fact that some of the bodies aren’t so dead.
There is a slightly greenish unearthly glow..

The blond dwarf charges up and tries to get hold of one of the spears, but fails and is stabbed. The elf is hit by a spear, the human avoids being hit by a spear and launches a magic missile at 3 of the creatures, killing two of them.

The creatures with the Crimson jewels for hearts move around and start fighting the lizard creatures.. The human tries to charm the lizardmen charging towards him, but fails and turns and flees.

The silver lizardmen, kills his opponent and moves up to the door. He opens it and peering through sees another large circular room with doors at each point. There are several large creatures chanting around an altar with a body bleeding. The appear to be more than a dozen of the larger creatures. The ritual completes there is a flash of light from the pulsing Crimson light in the ceiling and everything goes dark. The silver lizardmen evaluates the odds and closes the door.

The halfling kills the little lizardmen and then skitters around the large one to flank it with the dwarf.

A beam of light emits from the silver lizardmen and the wizard and both of the bigger lizardmen go down.

The party are all still very confused as to who they are. All of them have a heart shaped hole which has been filled with a ruby.

Further up there are very thin and narrow Windows. The halfling offers to climb up to the balcony, given a leg up by the sliver lizardman.

The elf and the wizard collect all the rope around the other bodies and tie it into a piece of rope.

The halfling listens at the door and can hear a muffled chanting, he slowly opens the door to peer in. He can see that there is a balcony, set into the ceiling is a huge crystal gemstone. Down below the balcony he can see a lot of milling around, and can see the little lizard creatures dragging the bodies towards the door we have blocked. A quick conversation and the party climb up to the balcony and go through the door onto the balcony, and then sneak around the side of the balcony to the archway. With two sets of stairs down the party splits and one goes down to an armoury, which has two little lizardman. The halfling enthusiastically charges down and misses the surprised creature, but it is caught by the silver lizardman killing it, the blow from the lizardman flings the body into the other lizardman which means it is knocked out of the way of the Wizards firebolt. However the silver lizardman strikes down the other creature with his backswing.

Meanwhile the rest of the party goes down the stairs and into a mess room, where there is a larger lizardman, who is surprised to see them. The dwarve charges flailing wildly while the elf calmly lobs a spear at it which takes it in the shoulder because it lowered its shield to defend against the dwarf.. The creature roars and swings its club hitting the dwarf in the side of the head felling her. The elf charges in and again strikes the creature, which retaliates and knocks the elf over as well..

Meanwhile the silver lizardman quickly goes through the doors and sees the large lizardman about to cleave the dwarf, however his strike stuns the creature. He then quickly stabilises the unconscious creature

The wizard collects a range of pouches and leather skins with liquid, the lizardman puts the dwarf over his shoulder and listening at the door. The halfling and the wizard drag the elf along behind him. The door opens out to the outside.

A vast city opens out before us. The light has a greenish tint to it broken by red flashes of lightning. There are lizardmen everywhere and the few humans appear to be slaves. Although in one plaza lounging are half a dozen humans who don’t look to be slaves, wearing scale armour.

The is a little alleyway which the silver lizardman, pretends to bully the ‘warm bloods’ down an alley way.. The party head down taking random turns down the alley way. Which the party hole up in.

The ‘fighters eventually come round…. The party feel that this as a city is right, but it doesn’t feel right

Interestingly there is no hole where the emerald is in all the bodies. These don’t appear to be visible to anyone else.

The bulk of the inhabitants are lizard folk of various shapes and sizes. There is quite a heavy military presence and also lots of slaves.

There are also a couple of dozen humans resisting their guards, they appear to be being herded towards the building we have escaped from. Many of them have a pudding bowl style haircut.

As we cross one of the main thoroughfares, large groups of soldiers continue up and down, as they pass there can be heard the sound of bells jingling and jangling towards the party

There is a dwarf running away with full plate armour and lots of bells strapped to it. There are the sounds of pursuit form the behind the dwarf.

As the party moves into the north of the city, we start to see more frog like creatures. The silver lizardman asks a frog person how to get out of the city. It says’ north gate master’

Silver lizard thinks the red lighting is the combination of arcane and religious power. He also thinks that people who have been sacrificed have their soul energy removed and so can’t be bought back from the dead..

A huge gout of red energy comes out of the massive tower and arcs into the sky.

The Oswestry heads toward the north gate. There is a huge wall and a large gate, with a large plaza and lots of guards. Before the plaza the road goes over the canal. There are more epistle and lizard type creatures. Suddenly all the guards genuflect in front of something that is coming through the gate.

Chim chimera chim chim cheree

The aerial battle rages as the chimera pursue what looklike a tasty snacks, however Tol’s accuracy with the bow deals substantial damage to the already hurt chimera. Memnnon follows up with a mighty smash with his mace and the power of Halav. The hapless creature crashes out of the sky and into the jungle below.

The chimera bites Kathka and then turns and flees into the undergrowth. The party regroups and flies higher above the jungle tops.

30-40 minutes later a clearing appears in the jungle, the jungle has a very uniform step down in cover. The party flies closer and notices that there is less wild life. Into the clearing it is not like other clearings. The vegetation is very slack and is greyish brownish. Memnnon detects an ancient intervention by the immortals around here.

In the centre of the clearing there is Obsidion basalt. It also looks that this has been dug out and there are campfires been… In the last year.

The clearing has a diameter of around a mile wide.

The party goes back and finds a clearing, where there is a great plough rending the ground. Which the heroes..

During Ozzie’s watch a ferret appears beside him with a pouch tied around its neck. Ozzie takes it out and reads it during his watch, which fortunately passes uneventfully. During Switches watch he can hear something coming…. But not through the undergrowth, he quietly wakes the heroes who spread out.

Tol suspects that it will be local wildlife, but a large amount of creatures. Out of the clearing comes a procession of ants. It isn’t clear as to whether this is them moving or being driven. Ozzie casts a storm pillar to try and cause them to change direction.

Memmnnon stands in the fire and starts to pour oil over the fire to increase the amount of fire. The start crawling up and into the clerics armour. Another swarm appears out for the undergrowth and goes after Switch yet another swarm appears out of the undergrowth. Tol sees the oncoming danger and also climbs a tree. He then swings through the tree on a vine to escape the ants.

Switch flails at the ants with his sword in a vicious circle. Kathka moves through them and positions himself in the storm pillar. Memnnon lays down his consecrated ground to deter the creatures

Ozzie increases his concentration of the orb maintain its power and teleports the ants away from him…. And to the other side of the storm pillar.

The ants come back, avoiding the pillar’s reach and spit at Switch and Kathka, who are standing safely in the caressing blasts of electricity.

Kathka has. A great idea and runs towards Tol shouting at him to get out the horn of plenty and start throwing them at the nets in an effort to get them to eat them rather than the heroes. The ants close in on the group around the campfire spitting formic acid at them, which poisons and weakens them.

Tol starts throwing jam sandwiches out for the horn of plenty which distracts the ants and they go after them.

En Route to the Obsidian Ruins
What's that huge winged thing doing in a jungle like this?

The remainder of the evening passes uneventfully. In the morning Ozzies summons the Eagles and the party takes flight. About 2 meters above canopy. A winged creature bursts out of the canopy about 30 ft away from Qzzie who is flying in the lead. A three dragon headed red chimera appears blasts fire at the heros but misses. Switch flies around behind and deals heavy damage. TOl shoots hunters quarry straight into the WYverns mouth but then is forced to dismount into the canopy. Memnon send a pillar of light giving additional damage to the beast, Ozzie also adds to the carnage. Kathra flies around behind, but misses. then another Chimera flies out of the canopy on the opposite side shooting flame, at Ozzie who shields for defence and retaliates. With Titans Fist. Tol shoots from the trees striking home with a heavy wounding arrow.
The beast now blooded tries to retaliate against Tol, but fails. Memnon and Kathra continue to add to the creatures misery.

Big Moon....Where?
The night Ozzie attended in spirit and not body

Secure the tower doors and ensure the servants are OK and inform them not to enter the greenhouse parts of the tower. Go and see Artris and tell her that we have thwarted the Ebenkey and their incursion into the tower. Ask if she could secure the tower better. She agrees and engages the General and guard to secure the premises and tend to the plants.

When e get bac to the inn e find a beetle on our pillow which scuttles away when they enter. the beetle reminds them of those in the tower. The group agree to continue on the rouse of the expedition. Sending the boat off for a day or two to give the impression the heroes have travelled with it, however instructing the captain to return to the city within a few days.

Ozzie summons the Eagles and the party board them and take off it will take a day and a half to get to the obsidian ruins. The eagles fly a few meters above the jungle and after a days flight the party camps close to the river, for the night. Tol scouts the area for danger and is confused by the nature of this area and cannot confidently confirm the area is safe. It is dark, humid, insect infested jungle, with stinky rotting veg and weird scary noises from the wildlife.

Tol uncovers some tracks, which are from birds and large cats. Disconcertingly webbed Repitlian tracks, however these are quite old.. some tacks indicating possible tribesfolk. Campfires are set but not lit. The group do not want to draw attention to the position, however want the ability to create fire quickly if needed.

During Memnons watch he hears some crashing noises well off into the jungle. Suddenly after an hour a crash of thunder reaps out across the night. Kathra remains asleep, The others wake up. It is not raining. On Ozzie’s watch he sees something in the darkness. Out of the undergrowth a humanesque figure moves forward. Ozzie grins and offers a greeting whilst nudging the oaths with his foot to wake up, whilst preparing a storm pillar if required. As the others walke the figure speaks Hinterland and appears annoyed. ozzies tries to communicate indicating the party are only stopping overnight. The Hinterlands appears to be unhappy at this. The others wake up as Ozzies flashes some light tricks to indicate power although is not being threatening. The other party members scan the tree line and then a voice speaks out" if you are not going to leave we cannot allow you to stay hence you will never leave. Let me light your fire!" A loud crack of lightening bolts out of the jungle and conjures a type of storm pillar.

Memnon tries to reason wit the voice hover the response seems ad lobbed, however he explains the followers require a blood sacrifice. it appears after some further chat the tribes folk are under the impression the group are here steal from the land. Further conversation reveals the now revealed magic user is suspicious. Further chat results in the disclosure of the destination of the heroes. This causes the conversation to change tac, as the Ines person becomes inquisitive about how the party will remove the evil which resides in the jungle at the ruin.

Tol cartwheels and shoots arrows at various objects impressing the tribesfolk with his archery ability. Memnon explains his affinity with halav. Ozzie fails miserably to impress them. Switch takes on their greatest warrior and wins. This causes the leader to exit the jungleline. He is more humbled by the combat, and offers apologises for his initial accusations. He does offer his concern that the party is not sufficiently powerful arcanely or mystically in order to take on the evil in the ruins. He bids the party good fortune on the quest ahead, then the hinterlanders retreat into the night.

A night on the tiles
Tower of green horrors

Switch peers into a narrow pantry through some unlocked shutters, before athletically and very quietly swinging into the room.

Inside ar a number of barrels of valuable liquor, which he can’t unfortunately put in the bag of holding. He moves over to the door and gentle opens it to find himself in the kitchen. He quickly and quietly goes through the kitchen and discovers a locked door, which opens to his skills. He opens out into a wide circular staircase and hall, down

Meanwhile inside the tower, the party loots the bodies and finds 60gp of primarily Thyatian coins. It would appear they have deliberately removed anything that would identify them.

Tol leads the way up the stairs, as he goes up he feels the air getting warmer and more humid and emerges into a chamber which has similar moonlight coming from the dome. Whilst it is obvious we are not at the top of the tower, there is no on is way to go up.

There is the quiet… Or comparatively loud chirruping of crickets and insects. Across the far side of the foliage can be sent a spiral staircase leading further up the tower.

The entire floor is soil and under one of the large bushes is the body of one of the Ebon Key. What is slightly odd is that there is the subtle swaying of the vegetation, despite it all being inside. Tol is slightly uneasy, he feels that there might be a sentience of the plants similar to that in the Feywild. Tol peers at the body and the lovely aroma draws him in closer…. The flowers bend down to allow him a better whiff and he succumbs to the aroma….. Rootlets start to caress his skin and suck his life out…

On the rough path there are footprints in the soil.

Tol comes round and notices that he has succumbed to a White Lotus plant. He quickly crawls back to the party.

Ozzie teleports into the room, past the White Lotus Plant and is hit by a number of things. He notices that there is an arcane suppression of fire and fire magic in here, whilst a large piece of plant life tries to get to Ozzie, several tendrils from the ground arch up and try grab Ozzie, he quickly teleports away from the grasping tendrils. He reappears on the staircase and surprises and is surprised by a member of the Ebon key, who then scarpers further up stairs.

Switch moves through the building and comes through a door into a large open area, down from the balcony he is standing on he can see a number of bodies… none of them appear to be his comrades. He thinks they have been a bit careless leaving some many bodies lying around, before quietly moving up the stairs… where he is confronted by a horned devil ready to mash his skull in with its mace…. oh, its actually Memnnon! The cleric quickly brings the halfing up to speed.

Switch and Kathka light up the Pipeweed, before Kathka tries to move through the forest, in an effort to avoid the effects of the White Lotus PLant, however it’s drowsing aroma still overcomes her.

Across the room,Ozzie pushes the Ambush plant away and opens an arcane gate to take the heroes past the defences of the jungle. Tol charges through the portal to secure the vanguard, he moves up and away from the stairs, crouches and listens for the enemy. He hears movement in the dark and fires his arrows into the darkness, striking home with his second arrow. Further more the half elf hears the buzzing of insects which attack the ranger, biting and crawling all over himOzzie_garden.png

Back in the forest room, the Ambush plant moves back and attack Ozzie again. The wizard is bleeding from several wounds and has green poison dripping around them. Another Ambush plant springs up out of the ground next to Memnnon and tries to grab him with its Spiney leafy tendrils.

Memnnon and Switch cover their mouths and noses before moving to recover Kathka, the Tiefling also succumbs, whilst the halfling holds his breath, moves over and drags the prone dwarf back towards the gate. Before returning to get the cleric and dragging him through the wizard’s gate.

Ozzie retreats back through the gate to lick his wounds, leaving the dazed Ranger to fend for himself against the buzzing insects. He thinks there are a lot of insects around him as he gets up.

The Ambush plant reaches up and around the staircase to attack the heros on the stairs, digging their spines and thorns into their bodies and sucking their life blood from their bodies. Then the tendrils withdraw. Switch reeks revenge against the plant, slashing and dicing its tendrils. Another Assasin Vine wraps its tendrils around the halfling, whilst the prone Tielfing fires a lance of faith at the plant.

Meanwhile Tol, sensing someone standing nearby, is hit by a jet of insects that bite and burrow into is flesh.

Ozzie goes through the arcane gate and up the stairs be surprised by a Ebon Key like feature appear, ripping open the space time continuum and slashin at the wizard as he moves past. The creature then grows another two arms with scimitars. And chases after Ozzie with its swirling blades. The wizard teleports out of the way.

Kathka charges up the stairs, sees the oil lamps at the top of the stairs and lights them with her fiery ring, let’s go of the dancing sword to attack the creature with the four arms, striking it. Across the room another creature unleashes another blast of scarab beetles towards Tol

As Ozzie maintains the arcane gate the arcane Assasin teleports to the wizard and attacks him, Ozzie pushes the creature away, but it charges across the battle field after the wizard. It appears the creature was once human. It slashes at the wizard grinning and says “the longer you take down here, the more secrets we get upstairs.”

Memnnon shouts at the halfling to follow him as he dashes up the stairs to heal the hapless ranger. Switch leaps to his feet slices at the vine that is after him, it writhes and spawns two minor weeds, which Switch slides and fades out and up the stairs. Kathka charges across the room, releasing his dancing sword against the arcane Assasin, hitting it and lighting the nearby lantern.

Tol notices a swarm of creatures coming out from under the doorway and attack Tol. Memnnon.

Ozzie maintains the wall of fire and is attacked by the arcane Assasin, which stabs him again, striking a devasting blow, his last act is to teleport closer to the cleric. The Assasin then moves upstairs. Memnnon strikes and misses, but heals the dying wizard, to which he is extremely grateful. The Teifling teleports out of trouble away from the insectoid necrotic creature, which collapses into a pool of beetles and reforms to attack the wizard, but misses and then scuttles off to go after the halfling.

Ozzie calls for the heroes to head up to the next floor, Memnnon beds the call and heads on up the stairs, lighting his mace on the way. At the top he sees the Arcane Assasin, steps forward and strikes it with his mace.

Back down stairs the heroes battle buzz Assasin striking it again and and again. Ozzie pushes it into the wall of flame and Tol fires a volley of arrows at them before heading upstairs to support Memnnon. The cleric calls down divine retribution against the arcane Assasin, killing it, it’s last cry is to say “We still win”

Switch draws his bow and takes careful aim and fires into the flame hitting the creature. In the flames it pulls insects off its self and launches them at the wizard.

Tol goes to one of the doors and listens at one to hear a buzzing scuttling sound, whilst Memnnon goes to the other lighting the torch as he goes past. He doesn’t hear anything. So they decide to go and take out the buzzing creature next door.

The larva assassin bites Kathka and then is pushed into the wall of fire, he then teleports up stairs for clerical assistance, which he duly receives.

Memnnon opens the door to see a room with a balcony and a larva assassin who is looking at the assorted scrolls on the bench. Tol lets loose with his splintering shot, while the diabolic cleric moves into the room to confront it. He extols the virtues of his deity and calls down a daunting light on his insectoid enemy.

Meanwhile, downstairs the other larva assassin is going in and out of the wall of fire and being whacked by Kathka and Switch, but it’s not going away.

Kathka’s hit kills the creature but not before it sends some form of message to its colleague upstairs. Upstairs the other insect dissolves into a swarm of insects and tries to to escape with a book, but can’t get it through before it makes its escape.

Memnnon collects the book the insects were trying to escape with. It appears to Deb a hand written journal of some description.

The rooms are a bedroom and a sitting room for quiet contemplation. In the bedroom there is a chest and in and amongst the clothes is a small steel box, which has a simple catch on, which contains a couple of lady’s earrings of white gold in an arboreal image and a chunky mans bracelet. These are worth 26,000 GPS which Switch pockets without the knowledge of anyone else in the room.

The wizard teleports up to the next room and is fascinated by the scrolls and ledgers. The vast majority of the scrolls are on botany. Ozzie discovers that the fungus are likely to be ambulatory and might even be intelligent. He does say that care needs to be taken around them.

Tol heads out onto the balcony and discovers a Mychanid creature which shuffles towards him. It picks up a staff like and says ‘I am Bob.’

Upstairs there is a great intelligence which is upstairs and is from another place. There is also another of the red robes up there. Be careful of the violet fungi, the puff balls. Be careful of the Carrion King. Generally the bio luminescent are OK to stand next to.

Memnnon casts shield of faith on the party and charges up the stairs to get the red robed Ebon Key. At the top he triggers Shrieker which lets out a piercing screech, which sounds the alarm. He continues across the room, but suddenly rising up out of the hubris is the Carrion King. Memnnon notices that radiant powers will be dampened here. In his head he hears an old, wise voice speaks to him “why do you try to hurt me? I could hurt you if I wanted to.” Memnnon falls to the ground.

Tol coming up after approaches the creature and speaks to it. Tol asks after the red robed one and the Carrion King indicates the body lying at his feet. Switch gently drags the Red robed creature’s pouch, which contains some coins and ebon key and. Decaying parchment which contains a crude sketch of the heroes and green crystal octahedron.

The crystal is a portable port is called Forories Gate, which is charged by a healing surge per day.

A conversation with the Carrion King, suggest that the Ebon Key robed man was very interested in the caves in the jungle, new agree to get him free.

Up stairs, what should be a gorgeous lush glass house is a scene of rot and decay, there appears to have been a poisonous soil, which now appears to be losing its venom.

Tol suspects that the Carrion King may have some connection to the

Memnnon climbs back to his feet and apologises to the Carrion King

The Tower of Varis

“The soil might have killed him?”

The heroes depart and go to attend the games, as guests in the box.

At the games we notice that a good quarter of the crowd are wearing pink feathers… Remarkably similar to Tol’s, the rest of the party is slightly dismayed.

The heroes are asked to address the crowd, Memnnon and Tol speak. Kathka opens the games.

The quality of the combat is average. The hinterlander said turn out to be the best fighters individually, but not so much as a unit.

Kathka offers to do a masterclass at the end.

Olwin, a hinterlander, is beating all comers, she has a side of beserker to her and quite a few people are quite seriously injured.

At half time a unctuous man, Marcus, Tulus comes up to the box and tries to ingratiate himself with the heroes. He is another merchant, who has a lot of interest in inns and entertainment.

A demonstration of magic and illusion by Orchalians…..who perform a set of illusions telling a story, following the demonstration they light the stadium with magic before the thunder lizards are brought on. We have never seen any of these types before. The creatures are goaded from. The creatures aren’t acting as they normally would according to Tol.

The final is Olwin vs a mystery Norse, the hinterlander wins, which wasn’t supposed to happen. Arteris is throwing coins, Memnnon cures mass light wounds on the gladiators and Kathka goes down to speak to Olwin and asks her if she will help, she will consider your offer and is interested in taking training from a dwarf.

Off to the tower

The party head off to the tower, Switch lingers back to see if there is anybody following. As the heroes depart they leave Tol to join his fans. There are a number of unsavoury characters who try to follow the party with foul intentions. Switches streetwise dodging helps the party loose any followers.

Eventually all tails are lost and the party reaches the tower.

The tower is 70-100 feet tall, there are small arrow slits. Above the beautiful double doors there is a small balcony with door. At the top of the building is crystal dome, which is most likely to be a green house.

Switch notices there is something shielding the balcony, which Ozzie senses is another crystal covering, but has probably hardened with magic.

Memnon gives Switch a lift over the wall and the halfling notices that there are lights on in the house behind the house.

Switch moves round the side of the tower, he thinks that something is following him/watching him. He finds a chink in the window and peers into a comfortable but not opulent sitting room, where an elderly couple are sitting down. They are dressed as servants.

Tol and Kathka get impatient and pick the lock, and go into the room…. A grand hallway which is dimly lit, which has tables in the middle of the room and a balcony halfway up with spiral stairs up to there and continue up.

Tol goes to investigate the plants. He isn’t familiar to the plant. Ozzie notices that there is a scuffed rune and notices that an alarm rune has now been triggered. Memnnon goes outside to keep any guards away. Coming down the spiral steps we hear some shuffling steps coming down the stairs….the ebon key! More are appearing coming down the stairs. Kathka smacks one hard, partially covered a red robed wizard fires a green bolt of lightning which misses all the heroes. Ozzie teleports the combatants down to be a bit closer the team, Memnnon’s infernal wrath fries one of the Ebon Key for soldiers after it hits him. However the wizard is no longer out of melee..

Switch meanwhile is trying to distract the inhabitants and find a way in. The old man comes out to investigate the noise.

The wizard shifts into the middle and brings his staff down hard onto the floor, cracking the tiles and releasing a purple gas, which fortunately doesn’t affect the party, much to the wizard’s annoyance.

The wizard takes another blow from the dwarf, before trying to get out of the close combat, turning and cursing the cleric, firing a force blow at him. Tol finishes him off with a twin strike.

After the Reading

The group discuss the images Ozzie has experienced through his object reading. THey decide to try and seek out the Smithy who created the keys. If Ozzie can point him out to the authorities they can then investigate the cult whilst the heroes continue on the mission into the jungle. They discuss their plan of action for the next day and then drink heavily.

11th Ambyrmont
Next morning Ozzie and Kathra head off to see the Sage. Tol goes shopping, Switch and Memnon go back to pick up their adventuring certificate.

Tol finds naturally coloured feathers, not like his dyed feather. He also takes a shine to some big trousers with puffy blooms. He keeps watch for anyone who may be following him, nothing appears amiss so he sits on a terrace and smokes pipe weed and drinks coffee, people watching.

switch walks up to Hazgee to get his permit. He offers the 100gpfor the permit. After signing the permit, he is told that the other adventurers have to sign the permit. Switch is a little annoyed as he cannot sign for all, so he sets off to find the others.

At the Sages house Durik answers the door. He apologises for not recognises us a people of importance and references our evening at the palace. After discussion Kathra and Ozzie agree to return with the rest of the party to allow the Sage to undertake a spel of truth on the group to ensure we are not lieing. they ask about the death of the other Sage and if it is linked to the obsidian issue. DUrik believes it is. he also mentions the iron key gang. OZzie tells them we have encountered them and offers the key to the dwarf to allow his master to do an object treading similar to the one he did as he may be able to identify the smithy etc. The dwarf is cautious of the key and explains it is not a key but actually a symbol.

Tol is attacked whilst at the cafe. He is fired at with crossbow bolts. Luckily he has already taken cover as he cannot be surprised and the bolts miss him. he then commences to make and escape as the other members of the public begin to flee. He manages to get into a close by alleyway. Tol hides in the kitchen with one of the waiters, overhearing the muttering so of the locals. the danger appears to have passed and Tol assumes it is safe to speak to the proprietor. He apologises for the disturbance and offers to pay for the discretion of the owner and his staff to keep Tols identity a secret, whilst he bags up Tols food. In Thanks he gives his well travelled pink feather to the proprietor who accepts and then Tol sneaks away before the guard can question him.

After the signing of the permit

The group gather to sign after much banter with the gnome, they the head over to the Sages house for the truth spell to be cast. On the trip to the Sages, Tol indicates the crossbow bolts may have been poisoned due to the configuration. The group arrive at the Sages house. On entering the group wait for the Sage to appear. the door seems to be well secured and then a elderly but frail man appears in the door way. He seems very nervous and wary of the group. Zenifus then begins his ritual, before asking what we want. Ozzie takes the lead and explains the story so far, including Beastmen, demons from other realms, our belief that the obsidian cities are key to this hence our trip across the sea to seek out and stop this evil. he then goes on to tell him about the site in the jungle and our desire to find it.

The sage listens intently then speaks about Marcus Aurelius expedition. he explains that Marcus went back to the five shires and Karemeikos. AFter investigations into the ruins he believes they possess a great threat, and that what everything that remains there is not dead. The thought of going there terrifies Zenifus and he declines the opportunity to go. he is worried about the Ebon Keys interest in the Obsidian cities. he also refers to the cult of Thanitos which can be found in the depressed and poor areas of the Thiation cities.

HE still has the artefacts which are extremely old. They warded and shielded so others cannot see them. Created by non human beings who worshipped those from the beyond and want them back. THese are foolish as the world will be destroyed and none of those who assist in its occurrence will benefit. The artefacts are basically some discs about 6 inches across, containing symbols and pictures that are a language. Zenefus explains he is making slow progress at deciphering them. Other artefacts include some pottery, but all items where mundane and any rituals which tried to ascertain when they were created has failed. the creators had Lizard folk and troglodytes as servants. Their appearance seems to resemble the mummies and statues found in the obsidian cave .

The party inform Zenifus that our intentions are to gain more knowledge about the obsidian cities and prevent further incursions. THe other Sage was very interested in the soil samples that came from findings of Marcus’s and speculates the soil could have poisoned him, although he does believe it was the Ebb and Key. Tol asks about the information held in the old sages house and finds out that it will be passed to the new adalya.

Tol wonders if Ozzie wants to try and occupy the Sages empty tower. FErus was more interested in Druidic methods. As the conversation continues ZEnifus informs the group that notes had been sent to him speaking of unspeakable evils below the ground which forced him to abandon his expedition. Tol thinks we should cross reference the notes of Marcus against other copies to see if they hold discrepancies. ZEnifus believes Marcus sent out copies of his notes as a warning and nothing more.

ZEnifus confirms he did an object reading and the keys were produced in the market and given to other trades folk, openly under cover of a standard key transaction.

The group thank ZEnifus for his help then set off for the games with the intention of visiting Ferus’s tower.
