Threshold is a thriving town of around 5000 built on the shores of Lake Windrush. Much of the town is new, and follows strict planning laws imposed by the ruler, Patriarch Sherlane, the Baron Halaran. Despite its ‘frontier’ location, town laws try to ensure a peaceful community.In many ways it epitomises the ‘new Karameikan’ attitude.
The people of Threshold thrive on a mix of trade, fishing in the rich waters of Lake Windrush, and logging in the neighbouring forests.
SITE AND SITUATION
Built on the southern shore of Lake Windrush at the terminus of the Duke’s Road. Threshold acts as the administrative centre for many smaller comunities such as Eltan’s Spring and Highdell.
Threshold boasts all the services that one would expect from a large town in a region of wilderness. The town is surrounded and protected by two town walls, the earliest has been superceeded by the most recent, but still tends to mark the boundry between the commercial and the residential areas.
Some of the important buildings in Threshold include;
The Town Hall, centre of governance of the whole region, though the patriarch lives in his castle nearby on the shores of the lake.
Wizard’s Tower; Home to the most powerful wizard in the region (allegedly). She runs an informal school for aspiring wizards.
Church of Karameikos; a large temple dedicated to the new Karameikan faith. All the ususal services associated with a major temple are available here.
Fogor Isle; a rough winding maze of streets built on an island in the river. This is an area of lawlessness avoided by most of Threshold’s law-abiding population.
Windrush Town; a group of huts built right on the lake-shore where Threshold’s population of fishermen make a living from the rich waters of the lake.
Shrine of Halav; a small temple dedicated to Halav.
Shrine of Petra; a small temple dedicated to Petra.
Shrine of Zirchev; a small temple dedicated to Zirchev.
Infirmary of Chardastes; a combination of temple and place of healing dedicated to Chardastes, the immortal of healing.
